Thank you to Claire Percy from Right at Home for inviting us to their staff meeting today. We were delighted to meet her wonderful team and it was great for Peter to have this opportunity to talk directly to care-givers and support workers about how he lives as well as he can with dementia. As ever, the talk went down well, sprinkled as it was with the usual eclectic mix of humour, pathos and fact and the team seemed receptive and engaged (as far as we could tell behind their face masks!) in what Peter had to say.
This opportunity transpired after Bill Percy heard Peter's talk on the Lesley Dolphin show a few weeks ago. Claire contacted me to ask if Peter was available to talk to the staff team. Anyone who knows Peter knows that you only have to say, "are you/would you..." and, before the sentence has even finished, he has agreed.
One of the questions we were asked after the talk was about available books on the subject and I was pleased to be able to signpost staff to AlzAuthors and to explain how they curate and promote the work of over 300 authors. I also took the opportunity to explain our links with the three organisations on our banner: AlzAuthors, For Brian CIC and Alzheimer's Research UK.
It was lovely gesture for Right at Home to purchase each member of staff a gift of either "Slow Puncture" or "Walk with Me" and we were more than happy to sign each book.
Not only were we made to feel Right at Home, we were also spoiled with our own packet of mini Easter eggs! Sometimes, when you think things can't possibly get any better...they do!
