Peter and I were delighted to be involved in yet another wonderful initiative from our friends at AlzAuthors AlzAuthors - Your Compassionate Guide Through Alzheimer's
As their website says: “AlzAuthors is the global community of authors writing about Alzheimer's and dementia from personal experience to light the way for others” and we have been associated with them for four years now.
Every experience has been so positive and last week’s podcast for their Books and Chit Chat scheme was no exception.
With hosts, Marianne and Christy, holding everything together for us Peter was able to explain in his usual vivid way what it’s like for him on his journey with Alzheimer’s, with the focus especially on the the current point of the journey. There were some great questions from the audience and it was a privilege to be with Peter as he tackled with his usual unalloyed enthusiasm yet another event, particularly one so late in the day for us (it was 7pm in the UK and only 2pm in the US!).
From my perspective, despite my considerable trepidation at reading out loud, I was able to read a couple of Peter’s poems and a short excerpt from “Slow Puncture”. It was a strange experience to be reading from the book about Peter – the book he has never read – and to sense his reaction as he sat alongside me. Both of our books are available via Amazon and "Slow Puncture" is also available from The Book Guild's website and in some of our local independent bookshops. And don't forget the audio version, too! (The 'books' tab on our website contains all the details for purchasing our books in whatever format!)
During this podcast, I had the opportunity to give a mini plug for our ‘work in progress’: our latest book – “Patching the Puncture.”
All of the initiatives from AlzAuthors are well thought out and, I know, time consuming, so again I just want to thank all involved for continuing to produce events such as this and for including Peter in their planning. Here's to the next one!
